Dear BHS Bearcats and LVBBA Members,

Mr. Jeff Bird

Welcome to the La Verne Band Booster Association website, home of the Bonita High School Marching Bearcats, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Drumline and Color Guard. As director of these fine ensembles, I would like to thank the La Verne Band Boosters Association for their continued support of the arts in the La Verne area. Your financial contributions and personal volunteering have helped develop an award winning and critically acclaimed high school music program.

The 2017-2018 school year is upon us and it will be a busy and exciting one! This fall the Marching Bearcats will be getting into the Halloween spirit a little early with their witch themed field show “Coven” based off of music by Randall Standridge. Our color guard will become 17th century witches that will emerge from a creepy forest to torment the other band members. The band is at the absolute maximum size for 3A division with 90 musicians (plus 14 guard and 2 drum majors) with the largest freshman class ever (nearly 40).

During the fall season, the LVBBA has several fundraisers planned to help support the program. We have started an Entertainment App fundraiser to begin the year. We will be hosting our 2nd annual Sound in Motion Field Tournament at Glenn Davis Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 30th, and will be selling program ad space and trophy sponsorships for that event. In October, we will be hosting our Golf Tournament, as well as an e-waste collection at BHS (dates TBA). Then, in November, we’ll be raffling off 4 more Disneyland Park Hopper passes.

I’m proud to announce that after a year away, both the Marching Bearcats and the Jazz Ensemble have been invited back to perform at Disneyland’s Community Arts Showcase this school year and we hope to have dates for those performances from Disney soon.

The holiday season has become a busy one for the band in recent years as the Wind and Jazz Ensembles have become very popular in the area with the You’ve Been Band mini-marching band caroling project and private dinner parties. If you have an occasion that would benefit from the talents and holiday cheer of these groups, please contact me ([email protected]).

The winter brings a big transition for the program. We will kick off the New Year with our 2nd annual 5k Run/Walk fundraiser at Heritage Park in La Verne. Meanwhile, the Marching Band splits to become the superior rated Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, the Color Guard becomes the WGASC gold medal award winning Winter Guard, the Drumline embarks on their quest for championships in the extremely competitive SCPA circuit and the Jazz Ensemble continues to hone their skills in preparation for April’s Swingin’ With The Big Bands gala at the Fox Theater in Pomona. In February, the LVBAA will host a Goodwill collection as well as a Poker/Bunco Night.

Two special events at the Bonita Center for the Arts (BCA) will keep the band active in the spring as we host the 3rd Annual SCSBOA Band and Orchestra Festival in March and the 2nd Annual BUSD Jazz Explosion Band Festival in April. We’ll wrap up the year with our Spring Concert in May at the BCA where we will announce the winner of our Knott’s Berry Farm season pass raffle (4).

The LVBBA also hosts a family dinner night at a local restaurant on the last Tuesday of every month during the school year. If you take a flyer that we post on our documents page to the restaurant the LVBBA can receive 20%-50% of your bill back to the program.

We hope that you will be able to enjoy the hard work of these fantastic ensembles this year and if you feel compelled, to contribute to the program so that we can continue to support these amazing young men and women. Thanks for your support!

Sincerely,

Jeff Bird
